It is with great pleasure and a good deal of excitement that we share this newsletter with you. We celebrated the 11th anniversary of the Annual Gala, an event that has enabled BrazilFoundation to support more than 200 community nonprofit organizations in Brazil.
We have exciting news to share with you about the activities of BrazilFoundation over the last couple of months. On July 7th, the Foundation partnered up with the Ford Foundation and Human Rights Watch at the 2013 International Human Rights Funders Group (IHRFG) conference, sponsoring a panel entitled “From Cape Town to Rio: Strategies for Funding Human Rights Work in the Context of Mega-Sporting Events.”
We also have plenty of exciting news to share about our grantees, IPTI and ECOA won the FINEP award for innovation, and Associação Coletivo Popular de Saúde e Cultura de Mandacaru was the only Brazilian organization to win the Ashoka International Challenge—Food for All.
We are always excited to share ideas that transform Brazil. We hosted talks by two of our grantees in October: David Hertz of Gastromotiva spoke in New York about social gastronomy. Guilherme Franco spoke to our community of supporters in Miami about the work of Plan B Institute, an organization that offers vocational training in technology for young adults living in low income communities in Jaboatão dos Guararapes.
BrazilFoundation’s Carioca Fund continues its pioneering work with the teenagers and young adults in Rio´s favelas. Just like it did over the last two years, it is working with urban youth who are artistically inclined, and this year it is sponsoring a storytelling contest entitled "I, Young Carioca, Have a Story to Tell."
Finally, you can now download our 2012 Annual Report. In it you will find a review of an incredible year for the Foundation, during which we extended our global presence with marquee events in Europe and Florida; funded a record number of organizations; opened up a new line of financing to fund Early Childhood Education and the institutional development of our past grantees.
We take this opportunity to thank you for your trust and support. Enjoy.
