BrazilFoundation held the IV Gala Miami last night at the beautiful Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM). Presented by Park Grove, the event brought together hundreds in support of a better Brazil. A total of US$ 525,000 was raised from the event, including proceeds from auction and ticket sales, which will support at least 15 social projects in Brazil.

Paulo and Lais Bacchi, past BrazilFoundation gala supporters, co-chaired the event. Paulo Bacchi is CEO of Artefacto International, one of the sponsors of the night. Park Grove – Terra and The Related Group were the main sponsors of the IV Gala Miami, while Brazilian journalist Glória Maria and entrepreneur Lorenzo Martone together were the masters of ceremonies for the night.

Three social projects were recognized at the gala: Fundação Banco do Brasil, represented by its President José Caetano de Andrade Minchillo; Fundação Xuxa Meneghel, received by its president, Xuxa Meneghel, for its 25 years of working with children and adolescents; and Associação Cultural Filhos da Corrente, received by capoeirista Renato Alexander (Mestre Magrão), which promotes social inclusion through capoeira for over 1,200 students in the regions of Parelheiros and Paraisópolis, in the city of São Paulo.

The International Philanthropy Award was presented to Marc Buoniconti of The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, an organization that is mobilizing doctors to find a cure for paralysis – and that is currently treating Laís Souza, a Brazilian athlete who became quadriplegic after suffering a skiing accident.

Cristina Brulay, Director of BrazilFoundation operations in Miami, states: “The Foundation’s network of supporters in Miami continues to grow and surprise us every year. We are certain that the Brazilians who live here in Miami, as well as foreigners who are becoming more aware of BrazilFoundation’s work, are attuned to the problems of our country”.

During the gala, BrazilFoundation announced its new partnership with the Bolsa de Valores de São Paulo (São Paulo stock exchange). The partnership will guarantee that 20 projects supported by BrazilFoundation each year will receive a second year of funding through BM&FBovespa’s donation platform.

Proceeds from the auction, presented by Eliana Michaelichen, added to the total amount raised during the night for social projects in Brazil. Among the pieces auctioned a pair of earrings donated by gala sponsor de Grisogono, a watch from IWC Schafhaussen, a racing helmet autographed by Emerson Fittipaldi; a painting by Kakati de Paiva; four photos of Rio de Janeiro by Cesar Barreto; ten artistic cubes by Brazilian artists, donated by Artefacto, and a sports package including a Cristiano Ronaldo jersey and two tickets to the Miami Open tennis final. Vanessa da Mata ended the night with a pocket show.

The IV BrazilFoundation Gala Miami was made possible thanks to sponsors Park Grove – Terra and The Related Group, Mandarin Oriental, Miami, American Airlines, Artefacto, Banco do Brasil, Crédit Agricole, Safra Bank, Goldman Sachs, Diageo and Grisogono.
