Professional training and employment assistance for at-risk youth

In Paulista, a municipality of 300,000 residents on the coast of Pernambuco, a significant number of youth live in a condition of social vulnerability due to poor schooling, truancy, an unstructured familial environment, unemployment and lack of professional training. Many work informally or are simply unemployed.

The project looks to improve opportunities for 80 low-income youths by training them in workplace safety, ethics and citizenship. ISBRAPT will incorporate youth into the work force so that they can take advantage of the industrial jobs that are available in the region. More than 1,500 youths and adults have obtained the certifications from ISBRAPT, which has pedagogues, educators, social workers and psychologists on staff.

With support from BrazilFoundation, the project will:

• Train 80 low income youth who are enrolled in the Workplace Safety course;
• Provide training in ethics and citizenship;
• Place graduates in the job market.

“People can’t imagine how important these projects are in low income neighborhoods, and how they transform lives. I am a living example of this!” -Cicero Delhany, President of ISBRAPT
