Residents of Afogados da Ingazeira are poorly nourished and live in un-hygienic conditions. The project intends to stimulate food production in home gardens as a way to promote traditions of self-sufficiency. It also aims at raising awareness about the land and the environment in the new urban setting. About 100 women and their families will benefit from the sustainable food gardens. They will also learn how to make and sell eco-soaps produced from cooking oil collected from local snack bars.
