The Carioca Fund, along with LCM Commodities, organized the photo competition “My Photographic Rio: the city in the eyes of the youth from communities where the police have established a presence,” in Rio de Janeiro. This competition involved 34 young photographers from five communities where the Pacifying Police Units (Unidade de Policia Pacificadora – UPP) have been established: Babilônia, Chapéu Mangueira, Morro dos Prazeres, Fogueteiro, Escondidinho and Morro da Providência.

The winners were invited by LCM Commodities to visit New York to present their work at an exhibit to take place on December 8th, 2011. In addition to the exhibit in New York, an itinerant exhibition will take place in Rio de Janeiro and a website will be created to showcase the competition and to create an image database and permanent forum for exchange among the young participants.
