Aliança Empreendedora Trains 47 Immigrants in Management and Labor Relations

 
The Tecendo Sonhos project by Aliança Empreendedora recently trained 47 immigrants in management, entrepreneurship and fair labor relations. The project, currently supported by BrazilFoundation, aims to promote better labor relations for immigrants working in the fashion supply chain in São Paulo. Of the group recently trained, 26 own their own sewing workshops.

An estimated 10 to 100 thousand laborers work in sweatshops in Brazil that employ manual laborers in slave-like conditions. The vast majority are Bolivian immigrants based in São Paulo. With the increasingly shorter life cycles of fashion collections and the need to deliver products faster and faster, retailers have begun to contract smaller businesses. At the end of the supply chain are the small  sweatshops belonging to undocumented immigrants who have no knowledge of the local language and end up working under abusive conditions. Aliança Empreendedora assists organizations so that they can develop inclusive business models that support low-revenue, small businesses. The Tecendo Sonhos project works specifically with immigrants, and will advocate for them in partnership with the São Paulo State Commission for the Erradication of Slave Labour. 

The Tecendo Sonhos recently received an honorable mention for the Ecoera Award, which recognizes initiatives that inspire and share sustainable practices in the fashion supply chain.
