The Ecological Protection Society in Angra dos Reis (SAPE) operates in the areas of environmental education, ecotourism, and the strengthening of local culture. With the support of BrazilFoundation, a project was implemented to rescue cultural traditions including dance, artisan training, tourism, agro-forestry and digital inclusion. The project resulted in greater recognition of native ownership of the remaining Quilombo land, and the construction of the Santa Rita House, a center for cultural preservation. The project won first place in the Ministry of Culture’s Live Culture Prize.
