Teatro na Laje

Grupo do Beco, located in the Santa Lucia neighborhood, one of the largest slums in Belo Horizonte, uses slum rooftops (known as “laje,” a space used for integration between neighbors) for art. The institution develops theater activities based on local cultural traditions to expand the possibilities of self-expression for this population. The project “Teatro na Laje” helped the organization expand its rooftop performances to seven other communities facing similar social conditions.
