Waterflood in Rio Grande do Sul affects women deeply

Rio Grande do Sul has been affected by a sequence of extreme weather events, the state has the highest number of emergency and public calamity decrees related to rain in Brazil, however 2024 has been the worst so far. Nearly 150 people died and more than 500.000 are homeless. Climate crisis are not gender neutral, and escalate inequalities as violence against women and girls, such as the recent news of girls suffering sexual abuse in the improvised shelter homes.

How we are helping

Whirlpool wants to be part of the solution to this huge problem and is donating R$ 262K in emergency aid such as food and hygiene products and also R$ 700K in appliances to the shelter homes. But it would also like to invite employees, suppliers and partners to donate funds for the cause.

How you can help

Making a donation through BrazilFoundation is a safe and effective way to make a difference. If you are donating from the U.S., you can also receive a tax exemption.

Donating any amount to Consulado da Mulher, the main social program for Whirlpool in Brazil. Consulado is receiving the donations and redirecting it to Rio Grande do Sul, presently to assist with more emergency aid, but in the near future to help reconstruct communities and specially assist the women and their children who were mostly affected.
