Projeto Vivência Ribeirinha – Dignidade para as Comunidades Ribeirinhas das Ilhas de Ananindeua
The Ananindeua Islands are located on the Amazon river and composed of 15 islands. Economic activities are concentrated in fishing,acai harvests, and the service industry. Predatory fishing and other unsustainable practices have depleted natural resources that are the lifeblood of these communities. Young people don’t see many options beyond migrating to the capital of Belém, where they usually meet tremendous difficulties, and no community support.
The Z93 Fisherman’s Collective was formed in order to unify a struggling population in need of support, ideals, and opportunity. With the help of BrazilFoundation,a series of economic initiatives and workshops on sustainable fishing and açaí cultivation, as well commercialization of their traditional economic resources will take place.
