BrazilFoundation Grantee is a finalist for the Globe Award

Projeto Araçuaí Sustentável (Sustainable Araçuaí Project), from Centro Popular de Cultura e Desenvolvimento – CPCD (Center for Popular Culture and Development), is among the five finalists for the “2011 Globe Sustainable City Award.” The prize is granted by the Globe Award, a Sweedish organization and global leader, that recognizes “sustainability for a better future in cities around the world”. The results will be disclosed on March 28, in Stockholm.

 

Based in the city of Araçuaí, Minas Gerais, CPCD seeks to promote popular education and

community development with an emphasis on culture.

BrazilFoundation supported CPCD’s Cinema Meninos de Araçuaí Project in 2009, which funded the town’s only movie theater built by the local youth with money raised from their own artistic presentations.
