BrazilFoundation celebrate 10 years of Gala in one night in New York

In its tenth year, the BrazilFoundation New York Gala has gathered once again, in good will, Brazilians and Americans at the Museum of Natural History yesterday (the 19th); Arpad A. Busson, André Brandão, Manoel de Andrade and Malu Millerman were the honorees.

“Sun is shining, the weather is sweet. Make you want to move your dancing feet”. The music of Bob Marley sung by Bebel Gilberto echoed during the night September 19th in the halls of the Museum of Natural History, in New York, and consecrated the BrazilFoundation 10th Gala which once again, brought together music and entertainment In support of a more just and equitable Brazil.

The Baroness Silva Amelia de Waldner, chair of this year’s event, received more than 500 guests, accompanied by the co-chairs Charlene de Ganay e Georgina Brandolini. The guests were guided to the Millstein Hall of Ocean Life, the stunning and iconic “Whale Room”, also in the Museum of Natural History, having extra charm with help of decoration from Carlos Mota and arrangements from Zezé Flowers and caipirinhas prepared by Leblon.

Hosted by Luciana Curtis and Luigi Tadini, the foundation paid tribute to 3 people for their important contributions. André Brandão, president of HSBC Brasil was awarded for his work in Instituto HSBC Solidariedade, which finances social-environmental projects; Manoel de Andrade was honored for his creation of Programa de Educação em Células Cooperativas (PRECE), created to help prepare youth to reach college, a project that has received support from BrazilFoundation since 2003. Malu Millerman was honored for founding the BrazilFoundation Gala and for chairing its first six editions.

The International Philanthropy Award was presented to businessman Arpad A. Busson. Born in France and established in England, he is the founder and chairman of ARK (Absolute Return for Kids), a philanthropic organization that finances projects to help children in poverty or who are victims of abuse throughout the world.

Besides the proceeds from tables and tickets sales, BrazilFoundation relied on donations from the guests as well as a live auction. After that, the voice of Bebel Gilberto closed the ceremony. Then, the After Party took off with the DJs Michaelangelo L’Acqua, Rob Garza of Thievery Corporation, Nikko Gibler, Orazio Rispo and Julio Mario Santo Domingo.
