Women in construction work, sound technicians in video and music production, and at-risk young adults who are ready to enter the workforce: these are the issues to be addressed by the Carioca Fund grantees in 2013. The three grantee projects supported by LCM Commodities and selected through the II Call for Proposals are Mão na Massa (Hands On), conceived by the Federação de Instituições Beneficentes de Iniciativa Particular do Rio de Janeiro (Federation of Charitable Institutions from Private Initiatives of Rio de Janeiro); Lutando pelo Trabalho (Fighting for Work), of Associação Luta pela Paz (Fight for Peace Association); and Som + Eu (Sound + I), supported by Associação Cultural de Amigos da Providência (Friends of Providência Cultural Association).
Located in Complexo da Maré, the Providência community, and in the Rocha neighborhood – all in the Zona Norte (north zone) of the city – these initiatives focus on the professional development of young adults, as well as their integration into the workforce. The organizations will receive R$25,000 to support management, monitoring and evaluation of the projects.
The II Carioca Fund Call for Proposals received proposals from 23 projects. Among eight finalists, the three chosen projects were those that best demonstrated adherence to the Carioca Fund’s objectives, best showed their viability and technical capacity, and best proved their potential to form partnerships with teaching institutions and businesses that could eventually hire the participants.
