The II BrazilFoundation Gala Miami will take place on March 26, 2013 at the historical landmark Vizcaya & Gardens Museum. The night promises to be unforgettable with more than 400 guests from the worlds of business, media, academia, and diplomacy, along with celebrities. Co-chaired by Daniela Fonseca and Maria Carolina Tavares de Melo, members of the BrazilFoundation board, the event will honor David Hertz, founder of Gastromotiva, and Tony Kanaan, founder of Instituto Barrichello Kanaan. The night promises to be exciting with musical guest Naldo, a Brazilian singer who is gaining thousands of fans by mixing the Brazilian funk sound with electronic music.
Gastromotiva works to integrate young people into the workforce through study and hands-on culinary experience. Gastromotiva today is a reference in the field of social enterprise, and shares its model and practices at various national and international conferences. David dreams of one day turning his work into public policy, along with creating a restaurant-school that sells food products made by the students. Gastromotiva received a grant from BrazilFoundation in 2012 with proceeds raised at the first Miami Gala.
The Barrichello Kanaan Institute (Instituto Barrichello Kanaan) was founded in 2005 by race car drivers Rubens Barrichello and Tony Kanaan. The institute offers technical and financial support to nonprofit organizations and public schools that work in at-risk neighborhoods, supporting projects that focus on the social development of children, adolescents, young adults and the elderly. Through sports, the Barrichello Kanaan Institute hopes to promote civic engagement and also spread awareness of rights and responsibilities, encouraging leadership in the communities in which they work.
