The Urban Youth Fund established by UN-HABITAT has supported several thousand young people across the world to improve their lives and their urban communities. In 2011, in the third edition, 59 organizations were selected in 43 different countries, after a record number of applications. The two Brazilian organizations awarded by the UN-HABITAT’s Urban Youth Fund are BrazilFoundation grantees – ADEL (Agencia de Desenvolvimento Econômico Local), a grantee in 2008 and 2009, and Barraca da Amizade, a grantee in 2009 and 2011.

“All of the winners represent the kinds of ideas we need – ideas brought to us by young people,” said Joan Clos, UN-HABITAT Executive Director. “Our young generations are the future, and we need all their vitality, creativity, and optimism to create better cities and better prospects.”*
