The BrazilFoundation held its 11th Annual Gala at the Museum of Modern Art, one of New York City’s grandest landmarks. The Foundation welcomed major philanthropists from Brazil and the United States, who are dedicated to supporting the Foundation’s mission of changing the social reality of Brazil. The Gala was sponsored by Itaú Unibanco and Cidade Jardim Shopping Centre, organizations that have sponsored the gala in the past; Swiss watchmaker Audemars Piguet was a first-time sponsor of the event.
Will Landers, a four-year member of the BrazilFoundation’s Board of Directors, served as the chair of the benefit. Fashion designer Olivier Theyskens, Creative Director at Theory, assisted Landers as the co-chair. The Brazilian actress Luisa Moraes and Television Personality Pedro Andrade acted as the Masters of Ceremony for the evening’s events. The Foundation honored Alfredo Setubal, on behalf of the philanthropic activities of Itaú Unibanco, and Luiz Felipe Diniz for his leadership as chair of the amfAR Gala in São Paulo.
The Foundation auctioned off pieces of art, jewelry, and experience packages kindly donated by its supporters: a watch by Audemars Piguet; artwork by Brazilian artist Janaina Tschäpe and Mexican artist Bosco Sodi (donated by Pace Gallery London); a pair of earrings by jewelers Ana Khouri, Jack Vartanian, and Silvia Furmanovich; and a stay in the presidential suite at the Fasano in Rio de Janeiro. One of the most coveted items, donated by the World Cup winning coach Carlos Alberto Parreira, was a Brazilian national team shirt autographed by all the players on the team. Musical highlights for the evening included performances by STOMP, Alexia Bomtempo, and Diego Garcia.
BrazilFoundation would like to thank everybody who made this year’s gala a memorable event: the members of the Benefit and Host Committee; our media partners: Financial Times, Forbes, Forbes Brasil and Vogue Brasil; Zezé Flowers for the floral arrangements; Jeffrey Jah for providing the After Party space; and all the volunteers.
