The Event
The V BrazilFoundation Gala São Paulo will be held on November 28, 2018 and promises to be a memorable evening, gathering 300 people from the business, media, academic, diplomatic and artistic communities of Brazil and around the world to celebrate BrazilFoundation’s efforts for a more just and equitable Brazil. Proceeds from the gala will help fund additional social initiatives in Brazil in 2019.
BrazilFoundation is a non-profit created in New York in 2000 that mobilizes resources for ideas and actions that transform Brazil. In 18 years, the Foundation has raised over US$40 million and supported over 600 social projects in 26 states in Brazil. The gala will help support projects in the areas of Education and Culture, Health, Socioeconomic Development, Human Rights and Civic Engagement, and Social Enterprise.

Anna Schvartzman, Honorary President, CIAM
Anna Abuleac Schvartzman wanted to become involved with philanthropy from a young age, seeing it as a useful way to apply herself in a changing world.
She began her work at CIAM in 1968, and since then has participated in several seminars, always linked to the third sector. She served as President of the Board of Directors of CIAM from 1986 to 2010, and in 2011 she was elected Honorary President. In 1998 Anna accepted the Human Rights Award, on behalf of CIAM, from the then President of the Republic, Fernando Henrique Cardoso. During her tenure at CIAM the organization was awarded in 1999, 2002, 2005 and 2006 the “Prêmio Bem Eficiente” (Efficiency Award) Kanitz and Associados, and was also chosen as one of the 50 best charitable and non-profit entities in the country.
José Olympio Pereira, President & CEO, Credit Suisse Group - Brazil
José Olympio Pereira has been the president of Credit Suisse in Brazil since 2012. With a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from PUC-Rio and an MBC from Harvard, he began his career at Banco Garantia in 1985. His career in finance includes leading many merger and acquisition deals and offers and debts both in Brazil and abroad.
Since 2014 he and his wife Andréa have been listed on the top 200 largest contemporary art collectors in the world by Artnews. In 2016 they held the exhibition “Os Muitos e o Um” by invitation of the Tomie Ohtake Institute, composed of their private collection.
In Brazil he is the President of the International Board for Fundação Bienal and a board member at MASP and MAM Rio. He is also on international advisory boards for important organizations tied to the art world such as MoMA, Tate Modern and Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art. José Olympio is also on the board of ONG SOS Mata Atlântica.
In 2008 he was elected “Best Investment Banker” of the last 20 years by Latin Finance magazine. He was an honoree in the book “100 Personalities in the History of the Brazilian Capital Market” in 2011, and in 2014 was bestowed by the French Government the title of the Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters.
