January 28th was the National Day to Combat Slave Labor, and so we highlight the work of the Centro de Defesa da Vida e dos Direitos Humanos (Center for the Protection of Life and Human Rights), which has worked since 1996 in Açailândia, Maranhão to prevent and stop human rights abuses. The organization focuses on combatting slave labor and in helping victims of slave labor reintegrate into society.
