Objective

This fund aims to support Fundação Bienal de São Paulo in the promotion of its program. The foundation is the institution behind the second oldest contemporary art biennial in the world, the Bienal de São Paulo, created in 1951. Focusing on contemporary issues, the exhibition and its associated activities are completely free of charge, attracting about 700,000 visitors per edition, as well as reaching 80,000 people and 800,000 students both of them through the educational activities. No less important, the Bienal excerpts of the show travel around Brazil and abroad with the traveling exhibitions program every year after the main exhibition, a fundamental tool for the institution to reach its mission of democratizing access to contemporary art.

About Fundação Bienal

Founded on May 8, 1962, the Fundação Bienal de São Paulo is a private and non-profit institution that idealizes and puts into practice artistic, educational and social initiatives through art. Located in Ibirapuera Park, in a building designed by Oscar Niemeyer, the Bienal’s founder was Ciccillo Matarazzo, who modeled himself on the Venice Biennale to create an International Biennale in Brazil, with the aim of positioning the country in the international artistic panorama. Seven decades later, educational and traveling programs travel throughout Brazil and abroad, bringing clips from the official exhibition to various audiences, helping to foster cultural debate. The institution is also the custodian of the Wanda Svevo Archive, one of the most important documentary repositories on modern and contemporary production in Latin America.
