About Foundation

“I grew up in Brazil, near the Paraisópolis favela in São Paulo. I remember seeing the favela children begging at traffic lights. I couldn’t understand why I had the opportunity to study, a home with food and comfort, and these children didn’t.” Out of Katia’s discomfort with the inequalities she witnessed, she dreamt of what could be done to change the situation. The desire to help correct the social injustice in Brazil fueled her resolve to make a difference. Years later, she settled in the United States and decided to take action. After meeting social leaders, visiting projects, and identifying co-investors in her plans, the Katia Francesconi Foundation was born in 2014 with the mission to improve the conditions and prospects of children’s lives in Brazil.

In the last ten years, thousands of children have been impacted by Katia’s Kids programs, which are conducted by partner NGOs and personally supervised by Katia. For now, she concentrates the foundation resources in the Amazon region and the periphery of São Paulo. With your support, she would like to escalate the programs to other communities and NGOs.
