The mission of Vaga Lume is to create opportunities for cultural exchanges through literature and oral stories, while recognizing the leadership of people from rural communities in the Brazilian Amazon. A BrazilFoundation grantee in 2013, Vaga Lume helps to rescue and preserve the African and quilombolan cultures in these areas of Brazil through storytelling circles and the production of hand-crafted books.
