Located in the Baixada Fluminese neighborhood of RIO, the Oscar Romero Cultural Center provides the hearing impaired with a location for cultural reference and social inclusion. The play, Urucuia – O Grande Sertão, was presented with live translation in Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS). The show is part of the project entitled Inclusion through the Arts, an initiative supported by BrazilFoundation to include the hearing impaired in cultural projects.
The center, which for many years was maintained with minimal resources and closed its doors for two years, is a today a point of Cultural Reference in Rio de Janiero and hosts activities such as the promotion of reading, courses, workshops, video sessions, art presentations, and debates about social problems.
