Black children and teenagers: the right to education and to a childhood
The impact of social isolation on the life of students, family members and educators.

Established in 1988, Geldes produces political and social actions focused on the implications of racial and gender issues within human rights, education, healthcare, communications, jobs, academic research and public policy.
Geldes fights for the effective criminalization of racism and all its different manifestations throughout Brazilian society. Geldes also works to realize a feminist agenda: defending the sexual and reproductive rights of women while advocating for equal job opportunities and against sexual and domestic violence.
This project aims to better understand the unique impact of social isolation, brought on by the pandemic, has on young black students who stand the greatest risk of unsatisfactory performance upon returning to school. Gelda looks to reinforce a movement that guarantees students’ right to in-person learning.

The support of BrazilFoundation will allow Geledes to:

● Conduct studies examining the experience of learning from home
● Instill key performance indicators of educating through remote learning; what has gone well, what hasn’t and their unique perspectives on the state of education in Brazil
● Communicate the results of each study
● Hold in-person or virtual workshops, enabling pertinent discussions with students on their period of isolation
● Provide workshops to educate the unique challenges of remote learning and the future of education post-pandemic
