On October 13th, the twins Wagner and Walter Caldas made a special presentation to former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who was in Iowa to receive the “The World Food Prize”, an award given to personalities who have brought significant contributions to end hunger in their countries.

Wagner and Walter have been in the U.S. since 2007, when they received a scholarship to pursue a Bachelor’s in Music from the College of Music at the University of Iowa.

Before going to Iowa, they were members of the Grota String Orchestra for ten years. The Orchestra is led by the Grota Cultural Space, a BrazilFoundation grantee based in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro that offers music, arts, after school activities and training for the University entrance exams for local youth.
