PLANO DE ADVOCACY PARA MELHORAR A LEGISLAÇÃO DE DOAÇÕES PARA ORGANIZAÇÕES DA SOCIEDADE CIVIL (OSCS)

Advocating to improve philanthropic legislation for CSOs

ABCR is an association that supports the nonprofit sector by providing knowledge, advocacy and opportunities for professional development and networking. For 20 years they have been working in a national network to strengthen ties between professionals in the sector.

Due to the economic and political crisis in the country, sources of funding for CSOs (civil society organizations) have fallen greatly. Only 14% of Brazilians made a donation in 2017, according to the World Giving Index. ABCR works to promote systemic changes in philanthropy, focusing on financial sustainability for nonprofit organizations by improving the environment for fundraising. The association holds advocacy campaigns for fundraisers and organizations to be better heard by public representatives and society in general. Its project aims to increase awareness on and emphasize the need for donations to remain tax-exempt (ITCD) and to create a system of making donations through banks.

With support from BrazilFoundation, ABCR aims to:

• Work to draft, process and present the “Banking Framework for Donation” bill to congress and have it signed by the president;
• Mobilize CSOs and their teams, and spread awareness in parliament to increase support for the project;/span>
• Develop alternatives for CSOs to process donations from individuals.
