Artesanato Ribeirinho de Santarém

The Association works with low-income women in the Amazon riverbank communities, supporting artisans who create one of Brazil’s most traditional crafts: decorated gourds. The Santarém Riverside Crafts project trained 33 women in business development, packaging, and quality control, and implemented new methods of marketing their products. This work has helped the gourd producers gain access to craft fairs and exhibitions, and increased these artisans’ income. The organization received the “Living School” award from the Ministry of Culture in 2007.
