Today there are a total of 12,000 incarcerated people in the metropolitan area of Belo Horizonte, in the state of Minas Gerais. Prisoners and their family members often report torture and mistreatment to the Association. This project will extend legal assistance to 337 participating families, informing them of their rights. The Association will forward complaints to human rights defense services. Through data generated during the project, they also hope to influence public policy.
