Moinhos de Luz – Oficina de Vídeo Documentário

The Quixote Project started in 1996 in the Department of Psychiatry at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP) to devise a different approach to the issue of drug use among at-risk children and youth. The institution believes in art and education as alternative ways to help these children overcome problems such as violence, abandonment, and drug abuse. The project support by BrazilFoundation in 2005 offered graffiti workshops to these children and helped disseminate the culture of graffiti among the community.

In 2006 the organization received another grant to the project Moinhos de Luz. This project offered technical and educational training to youths coming from FEBEM and indirectly involved about 40 children and young people. The result was the production of two documentaries based on the work in the region of Cracolândia, including graffiti workshops, capoeira, and theater, among other activities.
