The Friends and Residents Association of Vila Mimosa develops projects and provides services to female sex workers in the community. In the area of health, the organization has achieved significant results in the prevention of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. Currently, the association is diversifying and expanding its area of impact by establishing important partnerships with the Department of Culture and with UNESCO.

With BrazilFoundation’s support, the association trained 90 women to be tailors and costume designers to work in the carnival industry. The women learned how to create costumes and other clothes. The first products to come from the workshop were carnival costumes for the samba school Acadêmicos do Engenho da Rainha, exhibited at the TEIA, a charity economic meeting organized by the Ministry of Culture.
