Mãos Solidárias: Aumentando a Renda das Famílias a partir da Dinamização das Expressões Coletivas de Solidariedade e Agroecologia nas Comunidades Rurais
The semi-arid region is widely considered to be inescapably characterized by poverty. However, a closer look reveals a population that is fully capable of managing this supposedly inhospitable environment. APAEB was born of the belief that, given the proper tools and opportunity, sustainable development is within reach of the region’s resourceful people.
In this spirit, APAEB promotes sustainable agriculture based upon local knowledge, and supports collective enterprises and organizations in exercising more influence over public policy in the region. With the support of BrazilFoundation, APAEB will set up collective, rotating funds for the purchase of goats, sheep, poultry and pigs in three communities. These funds will support 100 individuals in achieving sustainable livelihoods, generating income and fighting poverty.
