In 2002 the Association sought to develop public policies in the areas of health, education and welfare in Baixo Sul da Bahia. One of the programs offered by the Institution was the “Program for Sex Education” which consisted of educating the local youth on topics such as teen pregnancy, prevention of sexually transmitted diseases, child prostitution, and sex tourism. Trained by doctors, social workers and educators, the young project participants acted as peer-educators reaching out to the various communities in the region.

They distributed informational pamphlets and held educational lectures, among other activities. With the support of BrazilFoundation, the project reached youth in the 11 districts that make up the Baixo Sul da Bahia region, one of the poorest regions of the state despite its natural beauty and great tourism potential.
