Educação para a Cidadania em Emaús, Recife

The Association is a part of the larger Emaus International Movement. This Movement was first established in France in 1949, with the objective of helping those who suffered as a result of World War II. In 1996 it was set up in Recife and has since performed various functions, including offering vocational training. The Association serves some of the most impoverished neighborhoods in Recife, where notions of citizenship and human rights are distant concepts.

This project, supported by the BrazilFoundation, created vocational workshops with a focus on the defense of human rights and environmental preservation. The technical support provided by the BrazilFoundation enabled the organization to strengthen its management and shape its identity.
