Griô – A Tradição Viva

The Association develops actions to guarantee the inclusion of Afro-Brazilian history and values in the city’s cultural activities and in school programs, primarily benefiting children and youth. With the support of BrazilFoundation, the Griô project (Griô is an old storyteller in Afro-Brazilian culture) trained teachers as cultural agents to develop educational projects that enhance the local culture.

Content about the Afro-Brazilian role in Brazilian history and culture was eventually adopted in schools, in partnership with the City of Lençóis’ Department of Education. The Association also influenced the Ministry of Culture to implement the Griôs category in its program fostering Brazilian traditions.
