Quilombo de Ivaporunduva

Since 1994, the Associação Quilombo de Ivaporunduva has promoted initiatives that value the community’s cultural identity, the preservation of the environment, and the sustainable development of the communities in the Vale do Ribeira. Bananas play a vital role in the local economy and culture. Crafts made with fibers from banana trees are of great importance to families, who create beautiful art work.

The organization developed a project to monitor the productive chain of crafts and to organize families from the community in a cooperative administration. Currently, the crafts have been incorporated as a source of income for the community.
