Computer literacy providing future opportunities for children and fostering local community development

The Associação Um Chute para o Futuro is located in a territory marked by poverty and high crime rates. Founded 12 years ago, the organization offers psychosocial care, recreation activities, sports, crafts, music, cooking and arts for children and young people in the neighborhood of Porto Belo and its surroundings.

Access to technology in the region is precarious and many students have never had contact with computer equipment before. The project aims to promote access to computer science education for the students of the institution, through the establishment of a computer lab.

The idea is to digitally include the students, complementing the extracurricular educational work carried out by the organization improving the cognitive development, concentration, and scholarly work of the students.

With support from BrazilFoundation, the organization will:

• Provide equipment for a computer room;
• Hire an instructor;
• Offer computer classes (basic programs like Word, Excel, Internet, Paint and others).
