Mulheres Raspadeiras de Mandioca

The production of cassava flour is one of rural Pernambuco’s principal economic activities. Cassava is brought in from various other northern states to the flour houses of Pernambuco. These houses operate under precarious working conditions, often committing grave human rights violations, particularly in terms of worker safety regulations, and without any kind of formal registration.

The Center was founded in 1988 with the objective of developing specific projects to prevent violence, combat discrimination, and address the lack of opportunities for rural women. The organization also dealt with these issues by creatiing municipal councils across Pernambuco’s rural areas. Today, the Center offers advising and training services to local civil society groups to enable their participation of social service and public policy.
