Projeto Farol – Prevenção à Violência sexual nas Escolas

In 2007, more than 260 boys and girls were sexually abused or exploited in Salvador, Bahia, which is the state with the highest rates of murders of children under 18 years of age. Boys are the main victims of murder, while girls are more vulnerable to sexual violence. The CEDECA has been working since 1991 with the Program for the Defense and Promotion of the Rights of Children, ensuring legal and social protection, prevention, and direct care to children, adolescents and their families.

Through this project, training workshops with information on sexual violence against children and adolescents were offered to teachers, students, and parents from three schools located in Salvador. Members of the community’s historic center also received guidance on the subject. The partnership with BrazilFoundation enabled the expansion of this initiative for the identification and prevention of sexual violence.
