Os Nômades: Multiplicadores de Cultura Antimanicomial
The Espaço Terapêutico Antonin Artaud works in the field of mental health, developing arts and social activities for patients, while also providing clinical support. BrazilFoundation supported the “Multiplicadores de Cultura Antimanicomial” project, enabling the organization to develop a theater group in which patients participated in adapted theatrical performances – an experience that promoted personal development and socialization, and complemented their clinical treatment.
In addition, the project provided a course on the effects of psychotropic drugs in people’s daily lives to 150 mental health professionals. The organization received the “Selo Cultura Viva” award, given by the Ministry of Culture in 2006, and the theater group was approved as a Point of Culture by the State Secretariat of Culture of the city of Rio de Janeiro in 2011.
