The Institute was created to collaborate with the activities of Hemorio – Arthur da Siqueira Cavalcanti State Institute of Hematology. With the support of BrazilFoundation, the Young Life-Savers project, in partnership with public schools, provided art and education workshops to disseminate information about health and blood donation. As a result, as of December 2009, 3,950 teachers had included the subject of blood donation in their curriculum, 43,961 students had participated in educational activities on the subject, and there was an increase in voluntary blood donation.
