Jose Vale has conducted music classes for children, teens and young adults out of his home since 1999. Consequently, many of his students joined the traditional bands of Vigia, which is recognized for its rich musical and cultural history.

Spurred by his initial success,Vale and other musicians founded the Institute in 2008, which today has some 200 students. Students are taught to play the flute, percussion, and strings. Traditionaly girls were excluded from performing in such bands. As a result of this institutes work girls are now however, included. BrazilFoundation is one of the Institute’s first supporters, and will help continue enriching the lives of Vigia’s young people.
