Reading and Writing Workshops for Child Development in Pernambuco

The education system in the Jaboatão Guararapes municipality is facing great challenges. With teacher shortages and dilapidated schools, the futures of local children and youth are jeopardized. Plano B works to overcome low educational attainment in the municipality by preparing youth for entry into technical schools. The organization is expanding its activities into other communities, and plans to open its first “Plano B House”, through Projeto IMAGINE.  The house will serve as a space to hold educational activities  for children from the Novo Horizonte favela, focusing on reading and writing as transformative tools. Through these activities, the project aims to help children who are at-risk being exploited or entering trafficking, and instead allow them to live as children.

With support from BrazilFoundation, Plano B will:

-Offer activities in reading and writing, and monitor the development of 60 children aged 6-14 years from the Novo Horizonte community;
-Hold activities with parents and families to raise awareness on child development;
-Reduce the number of children at risk to exploitation.
