Escola Pequeno Tigre

São Gonçalo is a populous city in the state of Rio de Janeiro with few opportunities for cultural and leisure activities. The Programa Social Crescer e Viver was founded in 2000 to offer extracurricular activities, such as circus training, to poor children and adolescents, and social and psychological treatment to their families.

The project “Escola Pequeno Tigre” trained teachers and directly benefited children and their families by strengthening the local social network (family/school/community). Since 2007 the organization has been presenting circus performances with excellent artistic quality, for festivals and meetings on the topic of human rights. In 2010 they performed in Italy, England, Belgium, and Argentina. The organization has received various awards and recognitions, including the Premio Cultura Nota 10 in 2007 and Pontinho de Cultura in 2009.
