Thirty-five women gathered in Rio de Janeiro yesterday for the first Women for Women Campaign event in Brazil.
The Women for Women Campaign was launched in Miami in March 2014 and in New York in September of the same year, and now takes its first steps on Brazilian soil. Twelve projects in Brazil will be supported with the funds raised so far.
Maria de Lourdes Braz spoke to the guests about the work of Casa de Santa Ana in Cidade de Deus. The center develops programs to promote health and comprehensive care for the elderly, using a method that is a reference in training, awareness and advocacy. Some of the elderly participating in these programs were also present, further enriching the conversation.
Gisele Birman, a Women for Women supporter, celebrates the night: “Being part of the Women for Women Campaign confirms and extends my commitment to BrazilFoundation. It allows me to feel useful and active in a wide range, reaching a huge number of women who will benefit. The launch of the campaign in Rio de Janeiro proves that Cariocas want to participate.”
The event raised R$ 32,000 that will enable support for EDUCAP – Espaço de União, Convivência, Aprendizagem e Prevenção, which operates in Complexo do Alemão. The Organization will prepare women to act as mediators in conflicts in domestic and community disputes, helping to ease the violence and empowering the parties involved to deal with differences. 900 families will benefit from the actions of mediators.
We appreciate the commitment of all our partners who made this event possible: Gisele Birman, Anna Leticia Mariani, Shirley Gomara, Karen Lassner, and all the guests, including the journalist Cora Ronai, actress Betty Gofman, and businesswoman Nazare Metsavaht.
