Feijoada in Miami Raises US$17,000

The BrazilFoundation community in Miami held a benefit feijoada for Minas Gerais on Sunday, November 13th at East Hotel, Miami. More than 100 supporters came together from across southern Florida for an afternoon to enjoy typical Minas cuisine and raise funds for social projects in Minas Gerais through the BrazilFoundation Minas Fund. A total of US$17,000 was raised at the event, enough to fund two projects.

Ten projects have been supported through the Minas Fund since its inception at the end of 2015. The Minas Fund was created by BrazilFoundation in response to the environmental disaster that occurred in Mariana on November 5th, 2015, its initial objective of investing in socio-environmental initiatives in the affected region – with seven of the funded projects working directly with affected populations. The fund eventually expanded this year to include projects in the entire state of Minas Gerais.
