Abrace o Brasil campaign raises R$ 1.4 million for 80 organizations
The campaign received donations from across 9 countries
The second edition of the {abrace o Brasil} campaign received more than 5,800 donations between September 27th and November 27th, totaling R$ 1.4 million. Donors across 300 cities and 9 countries came together to support 80 social organizations located in 15 states working in education, health, the environment, income generation and social inclusion.
Each participating organization had their own fundraising page on the campaign’s multi-currency platform abraceobrasil.org. Of the 80 participating organizations, 31 reached their goals. CEPFS, located in Teixeira, Paraíba, which builds cisterns to collect rainwater for families in the dry season, had the most donations – more than 500 – and managed to raise twice their goal by mobilizing the community, local businesses and families who have been impacted by their work.
The high point of the campaign was Giving Tuesday, November 27th, an international day of giving after Thanksgiving week. That day saw more than 1,800 donations for the campaign, totaling R$ 417,000. To encourage giving, BrazilFoundation matched R$ 105,000, more than 500 donations, on donations made that day on the abraceobrasil.org portal.
“Thank you very much! We are very happy, crying tears of joy and celebrating together all over the world! Our gratitude to BrazilFoundation is great.” Giovanna Castro of BRASA, participating organization
The {abrace o Brasil} campaign was created to encourage solidarity, promote a culture of giving and connect people who want to transform Brazil with organizations who work to do so throughout the country. The campaign occurred during a critical time for Brazil, when the country had fallen nearly 50 positions on Charities Aid Foundation’s World Giving Index, now ranking 122nd among 144 nations, and when its nonprofit sector is facing great difficulties in fundraising.
Once again, donors organized fundraising events and collected donations through donation cans. Children got involved through bake sales and by selling bracelets. Youth at schools in the United States and Brazil also participated.
The campaign had the help of many ambassadors, including: actress Flávia Alessandra, BrazilFoundation ambassador; Tania Kahlill and Jair Oliveira, who held a benefit concert in New York; Lázaro Ramos, Baby do Brasil, Doda Miranda, Sabrina Parlatore, Tathi Piancastelli, Malu Mader, Isabella Fiorentino, Fernanda Motta, Maythe Birman, Cafu, journalists Maria Cândida and Adriana Couto, and many more.
“{abrace o Brasil} is more than a fundraising campaign – it’s also a program to help strengthen participating organizations by promoting their visibility, raise resources for them both in Brazil and abroad, and help improve their communications tools.” – says BrazilFoundation president and CEO, Patricia Lobaccaro.
BrazilFoundation will launch the third edition of the campaign in the second semester of 2019.
