BrazilFoundation Celebrates “Mulheres Notáveis” at Gala São Paulo
The sixth edition of the gala promoted gender equity with a theme that celebrated women
The VI Gala São Paulo took place on Wednesday, November 13th at Casa Fasano in São Paulo. With the theme “Mulheres Notáveis”, the event celebrated women who have stood out in their respected fields, along with honoring women who have influenced philanthropy in Brazil. With the support of partners, donors and social leaders, BrazilFoundation raised R$ 1.2 million which will be invested in social initiatives focused on women and girls in 2020. CHANEL co-hosted the gala for the fifth consecutive year.
In a night marked by diversity, 14 women, including one non-binary person, and three Brazilians who have made great contributions to philanthropy were recognized for their lives and work in promote social development and race and gender equity in Brazil.
Three women were honored: Natalie Klein Duek, Founder of Instituto Samuel Klein, a social impact organization; Alcione Albanesi, of Amigos do Bem, one of the largest social projects in Brazil; and Cida Bento, Executive Coordinator of Centro de Estudos das Relações de Trabalho e Desigualdades (CEERT), that, since 1990, has produced research and programs that focus on promoting diversity and race and gender equity in the workforce.
The following “Mulheres Notáveis” (Notable Women) were celebrated: Charô Nunes, Claudia Bork Saad, Denise Damiani, Denise Dora, Elena Landau, Estela Renner, Flávia Oliveira, Jurema Werneck, Luiza Brasil, Mary Allegretti, Pri Bertucci, Sônia Guajajara, Sueli Carneiro e Vilma Reis. The names were chosen by a panel composed of seven women who represent philanthropy in Brazil: Bel Santos Mayer, Carola Matarazzo, Denise Antão, Isabel Clavelin, Maria da Penha, Suzana Pires and Tiana Lins.
The gala had the support of several talented women artists: BrazilFoundation Ambassador Flávia Alessandra, Camila Pitanga as Master of Ceremonies, Ana Flávia Cavalcanti and Tainá Müller led the auction together with Carolina Sodré Santoro and Mariana Sodré Santoro Batochio. Bahiana Xênia França performed a special show, and DJ Marina Diniz, Marina Goldfarb and musicians from Orquestra de Cordas da Grota, a social initiative that has been using music to change the lives of youth in Niterói for 25 years, closed the event with a collaborative performance.
Since its founding nearly 20 years ago, BrazilFoundation has invested in women and girls. In 2014, the Foundation created the Women’s Fund, receiving contributions from more than 200 women professionals, business leaders and philanthropists in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Miami, New York, Boston and Greenwich, Connecticut. In five years, the fund has invested in 22 initiatives benefiting nearly 2,700 women and girls.
