An Evening of Solidarity for Brumadinho in NYC Raises US$ 13,000

Last night (February 20th) BrazilFoundation held the fundraising event “An Evening of Solidarity for Brumadinho” at Top of the Standard in New York. Two hundred guests attended, raising US$ 13,000.

Francisco Costa, 2017 BrazilFoundation Gala New York honoree in 2016, hosted the event. “I’m honored to be involved with BrazilFoundation and and to highlight their important work which improves the lives of Brazilians through their programmatic activities and altruism for the well-being of our country” he says.

The silent auction included items such as photograph “Karolina in Chanel”, by Eduardo Rezende, courtesy of Eduardo Rezende and Claudia d’Orey, which was sold for R$9,500, and the print “A Negociação” by Bruno Dunley, courtesy of Galeria Nara Roesler, which was sold for R$3,100.

The event is part of the campaign {abrace Minas Gerais}, which was launched in response to the dam collapse in Brumadinho to raise resources for social initiatives there.

The campaign has reached its goal of R$ 100,000 (US$ 25,000), all of which will be matched by BrazilFoundation to help fund between four and six projects in the region. The projects will be chosen through a Call for Proposals here: www.brazilfoundation.or/editalbrumadinho, open now through March 15th.

We extend a warm thank you our event host Francisco Costa and to the Top of The Standard – without whom this event would not have been possible. We also would like to thank: DJ Marina Diniz for sharing her talent with us; Cachaça Leblon and Qui Tequila for hosting the open bar; all the auction donors, especially Alpha’a, Eduardo Rezende, Kempinski Hotels, Nara Roesler Gallery and PressPod; our ambassador Flávia Alessandra; supporters Arilda McClive, Fernando Tormena, Guilherme Benites, Jeane Lopez Muniz and Verbo Agência; and last but not least, our board for helping make this night special.
