Mulheres Notáveis (Notable Women)

Investing in and educating women is a direct path towards gender equality, poverty eradication and economic growth. The emancipation and autonomy of women is the driving force for healthy and more humane social and economic development. Women are “multipliers”, possessing the potential to influence and transform the lives of those around them. And when in leadership positions, they improve company performance and profits.

Since its founding nearly 20 years ago, BrazilFoundation has invested in women and girls. In 2014, the Foundation created the Women’s Fund, receiving contributions from more than 200 women professionals, business leaders and philanthropists in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Miami, New York, Boston and Greenwich, Connecticut.

In five years, the fund has invested in 22 initiatives benefiting nearly 2,700 women and girls. Initiatives include: a multidisciplinary outpatient network focusing on illness prevention and care for women from communities in Rio de Janeiro; a program that prepares women to work in construction, helping them to achieve economic autonomy and to access their rights; a program that trains new female leaders on the outskirts of Salvador to prevent violence and discrimination against women.

To extend its commitment and echo the importance of gender equity, BrazilFoundation will celebrate the lives and work of several outstanding women, including one non-binary person, in their respective fields at the VI Gala São Paulo on November 13th at Casa Fasano. All of the funds raised from the gala will be invested in initiatives focused on women empowerment.
