About the Event
In conjunction with the XVI BrazilFoundation Gala New York - Celebrating the Amazon, BrazilFoundation and the Chamber will host a panel discussion featuring gala honorees Rita Teixeira, Coordinator of Movement of Women of northeast Para (MMNEPA), and Thiago Cavalli Azambuja, Founder of Casa do Rio. They will share how their organizations are helping to advance education, sustainable development, and social inclusion in the Amazon.
Joining them will be Claudio and Renata Garcia, founders of the Garcia Family Foundation, recipients of BrazilFoundation International Philanthropy Award. They will discuss the importance of philanthropy for organizations advancing education and social inclusion. Brazil is the 8th largest economy in the world, but ranks 75th in donations, according to the World Giving Index 2017. Donations in the US correspond to 2% of GDP, 0.4% in Latin America, but only .2% in Brazil. Foundations such as the Garcia Family Foundation are part of a new generation of Brazilian philanthropies investing with focus, purpose and careful due-diligence.
Please join us to learn more of efforts underway to help society in the Amazon, and the role philanthropy can play in these efforts.
