The non-profit organization Thydêwá, a 2004 grantee for the project “Índio quer Paz” (The Indigienous want Peace), has received the Points of Culture award from the Brazilian Ministry of Culture in partnership with the United Nations Development Program.

The goal of this year’s award is to identify and map points of cultural interest that exhibit innovative practices via activities that focus on the education and support for values that promote life. The Thydêwá project is located in the southern part of Bahia, a region with a history of violent conflicts between farmers and the natives from the Pataxó tribe. The Thydêwá seeks to preserve, defend and value the indigenous culture with educational activities that promote intercultural dialogue and the respect for cultural differences.
